Sonoma Salute to the Arts Announces Winners of the Ninth Annual Visual Art Competition

Sonoma, CA ~ The Sonoma Valley Arts Alliance, non-profit sponsor of Sonoma's 18th annual Salute to the Arts, announces the winners of the ninth annual Visual Arts Competition.

Flat Art (Two Dimensional Work)

First place: Harvest, by Andrea Boff, Half Moon Bay

Second place: Send in the Clowns, by Judy Theo, Sonoma

Third place: Fleeting Reflections, by Anne Hysell, Sonoma

Honorable mentions: Sonoma residents David Jensen, Amanda Krauss, and Lucille Rella

Three Dimensional Work

First place: Prototype 2002, by Rebecca Graham, Sebastopol

Second place: Happy Trials, by Martin Munson, Sonoma

Third place: Dwell Tangentally, by David Povilaitis, Glen Ellen

Honorable mention: Sally Speelmon, Sonoma


This competition was juried by Chester Arnold, Jann Nunn and Tyson Underwood. The show [was] unveiled for silent auction at the Salute Celebration-Happy Trails, Friday, July 25, at Buena Vista Winery. Unsold work [was] displayed and available for purchase in the Art Pavilion at the Salute to the Arts Food, Wine, and Art Extravaganza in front of City Hall in the Plaza on Saturday and Sunday.

Net proceeds from Salute to the Arts fund scholarships for high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in the arts; and provide funding for approximately 20 Sonoma Valley arts, cultural, and arts educational non-profit organizations. Proceeds enhance and enrich local endeavors from theatre and opera, to public school music programs and children's art classes throughout the year. The scholarship fund, established in 1998, provides awards for music, visual art, theater art, and literary students. In 2002 awards for promising culinary and enology/viticulture students were added.
