SONOMA SALUTE TO THE ARTS COMES OF AGE

Sonoma, CA ~ 21st Annual Showcase of the Culinary, Winemaking, Visual, Performing, and Literary Arts

Sonoma Salute to the Arts, Northern California's ultra-premium showcase of the culinary, winemaking, visual, performing, and literary arts, will celebrate its 21st birthday this July 28, 29 and 30, 2006.

Don’t miss the festival’s opening night gala ~ The Salute Celebration ~ celebrating Sonoma Salute to the Arts Comes of Age! ~ on Friday evening, July 28. Festivities begin in historic Sonoma Plaza at 5:30 p.m. Then discover Sonoma’s Secret Spaces from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sonoma Plaza provides an incomparable setting for the Salute to the Arts food, wine, and art extravaganza on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30, with food and wine from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; music and art from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sonoma Golf Club and Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa will host the Salute to the Arts Live Auction and Dinner on Saturday evening, July 29, from 6:00 to 10:30 p.m.

Salute Celebration ~ Salute to the Arts Comes of Age!

At The Salute Celebration, Friday evening's opening night gala~ Sonoma Salute to the Arts Comes of Age! Celebrate with tasty hors d'oeuvres, luscious wines, and fabulous music at the Peak of Perfection in Sonoma's Secret Spaces. Don attire befitting a grand 21st birthday party and gather in Sonoma Plaza for a sparkling wine reception and unveiling of the annual Art Competition Exhibit. Pick up your passport to Sonoma's Secret Spaces ~ and set out to discover fabulous, exclusive parties tucked into courtyards surrounding Sonoma Plaza. Get your passport stamped in each venue and enter to win a surprise trip for two. Before evening's end be sure to take a turn on the glittering dance floor at Club 21!

Sonoma Salute to the Arts Food Wine and Art Extravaganza

On Saturday and Sunday taste regional cuisine as chefs present favorite dishes; enjoy cooking demonstrations by noted regional chefs presented by Viking Range Corporation; sip an array of varietals and vintages poured by Sonoma County wineries; and savor the best of local craft brews.

Browse through exhibits of fine art presented by wine country artists; stop by the Sonoma Valley Arts Alliance booth to add your own brush strokes to an art-for-all-ages mural; enjoy theatrical performances, dance, poetry readings, and music from jazz and classical to opera and rock n’roll.

Sonoma Salute to the Arts Live Auction and Dinner

Festivities continue at Saturday evening's Ninth Annual Sonoma Salute to the Arts Dinner and Live Auction at Sonoma Golf Club. Watch the sun set over a sumptuous dinner by Executive Chef Bruno Tison of the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. The Dinner and Live Auction will take place on the lawn and patio of the beautiful new Club House overlooking one of the most enticing golf courses on earth.

Raise your paddle high as the auction commences. Bid to win large format bottles of wine painted by local artists, exclusive winemaker dinners, fine art including original poster artwork by well-known artist Dennis Ziemienski (creator of this year’s Kentucky Derby poster); wine country excursions and getaways; and exotic vacation packages. Net proceeds fund scholarships for high school seniors in the visual, theatrical, musical, literary, and culinary arts; and provide funding for some twenty Sonoma Valley arts, cultural, and arts educational non-profit organizations.

Tickets for the Salute Celebration are $95 per person in advance, $125 at the door. Tasting Packages for the Plaza event are $30 in advance, $35 at the event. A Patron’s ticket, which combines The Salute Celebration and a Tasting Package for Plaza events, is $125 in advance only, through July 22.

The Salute to the Arts Live Auction and Dinner is $150 in advance only. (reserve by July 15); a complete package, which includes the Patron’s Package and Live Auction & Dinner, is $250 in advance only (reserve by July 15.). A Benefactor’s Package, which includes four complete packages, is $900 in advance only. (reserve by July 15.) Benefactors may opt to purchase eight Patron’s tickets or six Live Auction tickets and four tasting packages (reserve by July 15.)

A Special Opportunity

Use your literary talents to tell your own coming of age story. Humor, romance, rites of passage. What did turning 21 mean to you? Send your story, limited to 1000 words, to The Sonoma Valley Arts Alliance, c/o Summers-McCann Public Relations, P.O. Box 1385, Sonoma, CA 95476, by July 7. The best story, selected by the Sonoma Valley Arts Alliance Board of Directors, will win two complete Sonoma Salute to the Arts packages.

If you are turning 21 on July 28, 29, or 30, present your photo ID at the main ticket booth in front of Sonoma City Hall in Sonoma Plaza to receive a Dennis Ziemienski Salute to the Arts poster, compliments of the Sonoma Valley Arts Alliance. If you are celebrating your 21st wedding anniversary on Salute to the Arts weekend, present a copy of your marriage license to receive a poster.
