Michael Holland Gallery

Michael Holland’s work is landscape based, rich in color, light and texture. There are often one or more windowless houses, that appear to have been dropped from some other place. His paintings are landscape “still lives,” beautiful yet sometimes troubling and provocative in their lack of human habitation. He paints primarily on wood panels that allow him to build color through the addition of rich glazes. He often subtracts or alters various areas through sanding. The process is then repeated and over time creates a depth of color that allows the viewer to enter the painting. His work is collected internationally and he has worked under grants from both the National Endowment of the Arts and the California Arts Council. Michael is a native of California and maintains a studio in Sonoma.
